Teolo
Hello everyone, today I want to talk about Teòlo, a small municipality of 8,945 inhabitants located in the province of Padua, in Veneto. It is a particular municipality because the municipal seat is located in the fraction of Treponti, and not in the eponymous village.
Physical geography
The borders of the municipality of Teòlo are a bit irregular and include a mountainous area to the west, namely the central-northern Euganean Hills. This area is bordered on the west by the territories of Vo' and Rovolon and on the east by that of Torreglia (and to a lesser extent by Galzignano Terme). To the east, however, we find a flat area with some isolated modest reliefs. Treponti, the seat of the municipality, is located in a sort of corridor that connects these two zones.
On the hillside, the most important reliefs are Mount Venda (without touching its peak), Rocca Pendice, Mount Pirio, and Mount delle Forche. While on the flat side, we find the mountains Bello, Rosso, and Ortone.
As for hydrography, in the hilly area, there are "calti", deep incisions where perennial or seasonal watercourses flow. In the flat area, on the other hand, there are several artificial canals linked to reclamation works.
History
Ancient times
Man has inhabited the Teòlo territory since the Paleolithic era, as evidenced by the flint artifacts found in Castelnuovo and on the Madonna mountain. This area was easily defensible thanks to its hilly nature, and it was also very rich in natural resources.
During the Roman era, the toponym "Teòlo" could be derived from "titulus", which means "boundary". This term appears on a boundary stone found near the parish church of the capital and dating back to 141 BC.
Conclusions
In conclusion, Teòlo is a fascinating municipality that offers very different landscapes. In addition to the Euganean Hills, there are many other beauties to discover, such as the enchanting fractions of Treponti, Tramonte, and Monteortone. In short, if you have the opportunity to visit Veneto, you can't miss Teòlo!
