Due Carrare
Discovering Due Carrare
Hello everyone! Today I'd like to introduce you to Due Carrare, a municipality of about 8,981 residents located in the province of Padua, in Veneto.
History
The current settlement was known in the Middle Ages as "Carrara", famous for being the homeland of the Carraresi family, who were lords of Padua in the 14th century. Don't miss a visit to the Abbey of Santo Stefano, whose earliest records date back to the 11th century. In no time, you'll find yourself transported back in time and enchanted by the history of this unique place. Another important building is the Church of San Giorgio Martire in Carrara San Giorgio, built in the 20th century on the basis of the previous one dating back to the 18th century. Imperial and royal, isn't it?
In 2009, a statue was inaugurated in the center of the roundabout in the town center. Here, you can admire the artwork depicting the Due Carrare, two female figures both sitting on a large globe that represents their territory.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Due Carrare were adopted by the City Council with resolution no. 36 of October 17, 1997 and subsequently granted by decree of the President of the Republic on February 3, 1998. The flag is a white sheet with a red border. The new coat of arms brings together the characteristic elements of the emblems of the two previous municipalities, taking up the crown present in the coat of arms of Carrara Santo Stefano and the six-spoke wheels, joined to the carriage train of Carrara San Giorgio. Some modifications have been made to the shape of the cart and the number of spokes on the wheels to more faithfully reproduce the coat of arms of the noble Da Carrara family.
The flag of Carrara San Giorgio was a white sheet, while that of Carrara Santo Stefano was a split sheet of red and white.
