Rovolon
Rovolon: a town in the heart of the Euganean Hills
Are you looking for a quiet place surrounded by nature? Then Rovolon might be the ideal destination for you! Located in the province of Padua, this Italian town has just under 5000 inhabitants and is situated in the heart of the Euganean Hills Regional Park.
Physical geography
The center of Rovolon is located at 152 m above sea level on the northern slope of Monte della Madonna. From here, the view extends to the north, offering a panoramic view of the Berici Hills and the Venetian Prealps.
The town hall of the municipality, on the other hand, is located in the locality of Bastia, in a flat area of the territory. Most of the economic activities, both agricultural, industrial and handicraft, are concentrated here.
Climate
The climate of Rovolon is continental, typical of the Po Valley. In summer, temperatures can reach very high levels, accompanied by high humidity and the risk of violent thunderstorms. However, the presence of extensive wooded areas and limited urbanization contribute to mitigating, albeit slightly, the summer heat.
In winter, on the other hand, the climate becomes rigid, with frequent fog and low rainfall. Negative temperatures are commonplace and often lead to the formation of the so-called Galaverna.
History
The name of the town hall comes from the "bastia", a fortification dating back to the 13th century built by the people of Padua to protect the territory from attacks by the people of Vicenza. Not far from the border with the province of Vicenza, the fraction of Carbonara rises, so called because it was a place for gathering and processing the coal of the Euganean forests.
The territory of Rovolon was donated to the monks of the Basilica of Santa Giustina by the bishop of Padua Gauslino in 970. Initially, it was considered "hard land" due to the impossibility of cultivating it, but thanks to the intervention of the monks it was reclaimed and cultivated by the colonists. To the latter, the Benedectines built the first church, dedicated to St. Sebastian.
Over the centuries, the village suffered from various calamities and invasions. In the 11th century, for example, castles were built by local lords, but one of these was destroyed by the people of Vicenza in 1198. In the 13th century, the village was sacked and burned by Ezzelino III da Romano, by the Scaligeri in the 14th century, and finally by the Venetians, who conquered it in 1405.
Rovolon's fractions
In addition to the town hall of Bastia and the fraction of Carbonara, the municipality of Rovolon has numerous other small fractions. Among these, there are Lovolo, located on the borders with the province of Vicenza, San Pietro, Fornasetta, Pozzetto, and Castelletto.
What to see in Rovolon
If you love nature, Rovolon offers many opportunities for excursions and walks through its woods and hills. Among the most interesting destinations, we recommend Monte della Madonna, Rocca Pendice, and Monte Venda. There are also sites of historical and cultural interest, such as the Church of San Pietro and the Pieve of San Michele Arcangelo.
In summer, do not miss the Palio di Rovolon, an event that celebrates various traditions of the territory, such as the processing of iron and ceramics and the production of oil.

Rovolon is a charming and peaceful town, surrounded by nature and rich in history. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy a few days in the open air, we invite you to visit it and discover all its beauties!
