Plesio, a scattered municipality of 829 inhabitants located in the beautiful province of Como, is part of the Mountain Community of Valli del Lario and Ceresio, a territory of great natural charm located in Val Menaggio. The town is characterized by a hilly territory, known for the beauty of the Como Prealps and the Lake Como side.

Territory

Located 28 km from the provincial capital, Como, Plesio offers an altimetric excursion of 1,832 m, ranging from 275 to 2,107 meters above sea level. The territory, which hosts six different fractions, has a vast basin, shaped by the glacier erosion on the ancient rocks. Furthermore, the main watercourse is the Sanagra, which crosses the territory outlining the western border of the city. The Sanagra valley is still little known and represents one of the most interesting destinations for those who love to discover unspoiled corners.

The town enjoys a panoramic view that extends over Lake Como, surrounded by meadows and century-old woods. In addition, the territory's flora and fauna are varied and interesting: among the species present, the chestnut, wild cherry, lime, and blueberry. In the Breglia area, there is the presence of the extensive larch.

Climate

The climate of Plesio is cool and temperate, influenced by the relative altitude and proximity to Lake Como. According to the climatic classification, the town is located in zone E, with a total of 2,880 degree days. On average, the temperature of the coldest month, January, is around +1°C, while that of the warmest month, July, reaches +22°C.

Culture

Plesio is a territory rich in culture and history, known above all for the presence of the ruins of the medieval castle, located on the hill above the town.

Furthermore, the nature of the territory and the historical influence of the surrounding areas have uniquely arrived at the local population, which has acquired its Comasco dialect. Even the name of the municipality, in dialect, is pronounced "Piees".

Leisure and free time

Plesio offers numerous activities for leisure and recreation, starting from walks in green areas and discovering nature. It is possible, in fact, to organize excursions along the paths that cross the mountain, or dedicate oneself to sport fishing on the streams of the territory. The Church of San Salvatore, a precious testimony of the religious heritage of the territory, can also be visited.

Gastronomy and typical products

Plesio's gastronomy is based on the culinary tradition of the area, promoting the products of the territory. Among the delicacies, one can taste dishes based on mushrooms, including porcini, present in numerous forest areas. Furthermore, the valley also offers excellent solutions for the production of honey, with numerous apiaries available. Finally, the Tröi spring, located in the territory of Plesio, offers the waters that are used for the production of Chiarella mineral water.
