Varese Calcio: A History Rich in Passion and Success

Hello everyone! Today, I would like to talk to you about Società Sportiva Dilettantistica Varese Calcio, better known as Varese, an Italian football team based in the city. Unfortunately, it was declared bankrupt in 2020 and put into liquidation, but it leaves behind a history rich in passion and success.

The club was founded in 2015, but it was the keeper of the sporting tradition that began on March 22nd, 1910 with the foundation of Varese Football Club, which then went through various relaunches and reconstitutions. Throughout its history, Varese has participated in seven Serie A championships, achieving seventh place as the best absolute placement in 1967-1968.

Moreover, its achievements include three Serie B championships, a Coppa Italia Serie C in 1994-1995, and a Coppa Italia Dilettanti in 1993-1994, as well as participation in a final round of Coppa Italia. In short, a history of successes that has left its mark on Italian football history.

The Last Championship and the End of the Club

The last championship played by Varese before the federal radiation and bankruptcy was the Lombardia Eccellenza 2018-2019. Since then, despite the existence of later-established companies that have replaced it, adopting the colors and name of the city, the team has not been officially re-founded.

It's a real tragedy for the fans, who have seen their beloved team close its doors. But passion and love for football still live in the hearts of the Varese people, who hope to see the white-purple jersey waving again on the field one day.

The History of Varese Calcio: Passions and Successes

The History of the Varese Football Club

The club was founded on March 22nd, 1910, as Varese Football Club, with the aim of promoting football practice in the city of Varese and other outdoor games. It all started with a monthly membership fee of 1 Italian lira, paid by all members of the association, managers, and players.

The chosen social colors were white and purple, and the first playing fields were located in the Casbeno district and in the Bettole area. In its early years, the club did not participate in organized competitions, playing numerous friendlies against various local teams.

The Varese Football Club made its debut in the Italian championships by registering with the Lombard Regional Committee in 1914. However, due to the war, the football seasons were interrupted in May 1915 and resumed only in 1919, when interests in football and other recreational activities returned.

In the 1920s, the club participated in three maximum series championships, then called Prima Categoria, but was always eliminated in regional playoffs. In 1922, following a Compromesso Colombo, it was relegated to the Second Division.

In 1926-1927, the club's colors were changed to white and red, to match the historic colors of the city of Varese. Meanwhile, in the Varese district of Masnago, the first city stadium was built, called the Littorio stadium and later renamed the Masnago stadium in the post-World War II period.

Final Thoughts

The history of Varese Calcio was one that leaves a mark. A passion that brought together generations, colored the city's streets in white and purple, and gave unforgettable moments to the fans.

Sadly, the end of the club was painful, but the hope of seeing the white-purple jersey waving on the field again one day is still alive. Thank you, Varese, for giving your fans unforgettable moments and for making us feel emotions together with you.
