Induno Olona
Discovering Induno Olona
Hello friends, today I'll tell you about a Lombardian town that captured my attention for its beauty and history: Induno Olona.
Located in the province of Varese, this town has over 10,000 inhabitants and is crossed by the Olona river, which creates the picturesque Valganna waterfalls in the Olona district. Induno is strategically located at the crossroads of two valleys: Valganna and Valceresio. Its natural beauty is not limited to waterfalls, but extends also to Mount Monarco and Mount Martica, which reach respectively 379 and 1032 meters above sea level.
The history of Induno Olona
But it's not just its geography that makes it interesting. In fact, the history of Induno Olona is very ancient and fascinating. It is said that even during the invasions of the Gauls in the 5th century BC there was a stable settlement in Valceresio, one of the valleys crossed by the town. Furthermore, the area of the road leading to Valle Olona (via Jamoretti) was marshy and occupied by dunes, from which the name "Induno" may have originated.
After the Roman era, Christianity penetrated the area and in the 9th century AD, Induno Olona was incorporated into Castelseprio by the Lombards. Under their dominion, the Pezza Tower and the Frascarolo Castle were erected, which was used in 1160 to defend Varese from an enemy attack.
The northern European dominance continued to overwhelm the Induno Olona area, undergoing Spanish and Austrian domination, which subjected it to the Province of Varese. After the Napoleonic Age, it was placed under the District of Arcisate, in the Province of Como. In 1827 the first Municipal council was elected.
The evolution of Induno Olona
In the 19th century, Induno Olona transformed from an agricultural village into an industrial reality. The factories present on the Olona River fueled the expansion of the town and in 1903, the Valganna railway was opened, connecting it with Varese and Luino.
However, the modern history of Induno Olona is even more complex. During the fascist period, it was a district of Varese, but at the end of World War II it regained autonomy, divorcing itself from the city of Varese after a popular referendum.
In 1956, the coat of arms and the flag of Induno Olona were defined by the President of the Republic, and today they are symbols of pride and belonging to the local community.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Induno Olona is a town that proudly preserves its millennial history, which joins modern activities and progress. Not to be missed are the waterfalls, mountain landscapes, and historical treasures such as the Pezza Tower and the Frascarolo Castle. Additionally, you can discover the industrial reality that is working to create new employment and develop the local economy.
So, if you're looking for a destination for your next vacation in Lombardy, you can't miss visiting Induno Olona!
