Pessina Cremonese

Welcome to Pessina Cremonese!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about the municipality of Pessina Cremonese, in Lombardy. This small town has only 563 inhabitants, but it has an interesting history and some places to visit.

History

Like many other towns in the area, the name Pessina recalls the marshy past of the territory, which, however, was rich in fish. The area was completely reclaimed about fifty years ago, thanks to the intervention of the mayor of Cremona, Pietro Baroli, who reclaimed the land by digging ditches and drainage canals. Today, the countryside is cultivated for fodder, meadows, and corn.

Once the area was famous for silk production and the presence of mulberry trees. Now, dairy cow farming is very important for this mainly rural community. The municipality is made up of several small villages, each with its own history and origins. In 2010, the mayor of Pessina Cremonese installed signs to declare the town free from racism and they won a special mention of the Peace Prize of Lombardy Region.
