History

The history of Ostiano dates back to the Neolithic period, with archaeological finds confirming the presence of a community of hunters and herders. In the centuries that followed, this territory was subject to Romanization, attested by centurial tracks as well as the toponym "Ustilianum", derived from the gentilic "Hostilius". Later, Ostiano was controlled by the communes of Brescia and the Visconti family.

In the 14th century, it came under the rule of Pandolfo III Malatesta and in 1413 was conquered by the Gonzaga family. In the following centuries, the town had various political vicissitudes, until it became part of the Cisalpine Republic and the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom.

In 1891, a tramway connected Cremona to Ostiano, making the town more accessible and convenient to reach. However, the tramway to Brescia was suppressed in 1933, and the one to Cremona remained in operation until 1955.

Ostiano today

Currently, Ostiano is a quiet town with a strong agricultural tradition. Despite this, the town has a significant tourist presence, especially thanks to its historical and architectural treasures.
