Hello friends! Today I am going to talk to you about Castelnuovo Rangone, an Italian municipality located in Emilia-Romagna, in the province of Modena. With a population of 15,022 inhabitants, Castelnuovo Rangone is a charming place full of history to discover.
Physical Geography
Castelnuovo Rangone is located at an altitude ranging from 46 to 97 meters above sea level, in the high plain. It is located southeast of Modena and is part of the Terre di Castelli Union with the municipalities of Castelvetro di Modena, Guiglia, Marano sul Panaro, Savignano sul Panaro, Spilamberto, Vignola, and Zocca.
History
The history of Castelnuovo Rangone dates back to the tenth century when Bishop Ingone donated land and houses to the abbot of San Pietro Ardorico. In the thirteenth century, the castle and a portion of the territory belonged to the Pico lords, while in 1391 the Marquis of Ferrara invested the Rangoni family in it. Throughout history, Castelnuovo Rangone was a fortified village gathered around the turreted castle, protected by a walled circle and a moat, manned by a permanent garrison of armed men at the service of the Rangoni family.
In 1796, the French occupation marked the end of feudalism and the end of the Rangoni family's government, also changing the village's name to Castelnuovo in Piano. In 1860, the municipality was reinstated, and the village regained its ancient name of Castelnuovo Rangone. In the years that followed Italian unification, several important public works were implemented in Castelnuovo that changed the village's appearance.
Symbols
The heraldic coat of arms of Castelnuovo Rangone depicts a shield with a blue field and a silver cross loaded with a three-pendant gold label crossing the cross. The shield topped by a crown is surrounded by two branches, one oak and the other laurel, joined by a tricolored ribbon of the Italian flag.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Today, Castelnuovo Rangone is a modernized center; in addition to the ancient houses gathered around the square, on which the parish church, the town hall, the medieval tower, the last remaining of the ancient castle, overlook, the houses, the villas, and the industrial plants built along the new peripheral roads extend. The historical center of Castelnuovo Rangone is a real treasure to discover.
