History

The area that includes Gonfo di Salgareda was involved in the affairs of the Ezzelini family between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries. The name of the town appears in the list of possessions of the family after their defeat in 1260. In 1329, the dominion of Salgareda passed to the Della Scala family. In 1339, the region was assigned to the podestaria of Oderzo, after a peace treaty was concluded between the Della Scala family and Venice. In the eighteenth century, the town of Salgareda was constantly threatened by the floods of the Piave River, earthquakes, and famines, becoming increasingly poor. In 1797, with the fall of the Republic of Venice, the town passed under the Austrian Empire's dominion. In the pre-revolutionary period between 1797 and 1805, the "aulic Treviso government" was established. During the Kingdom of Italy in 1806-1814, the territory of the municipality of Salgareda was created from the merger of the Municipality of Salgareda and the former municipalities of Campo di Pietra and Campobernardo.

During World War I, Salgareda was occupied by the Austro-Hungarian army. The town remained in the operational area of the VII Corps A.U. and was defended by the 73rd Infantry Regiment of the 12th Gebirgsbrigade. During the Battle of Solstice, the town was deployed in its own section of the front line of the 24th Division.
