From origins to modern days: the history of Ronciglione
Ronciglione has a long history that we only partially talk about. A document dating back to 1103 mentions the name of Ronciglione for the first time and according to the well-known historian from Orvieto, Cipriano Manente, it may have been founded in 1045.
In 1526, the town passed into the hands of the Farnese family and with them experienced a period of great splendor and development. Ronciglione was one of the most important commercial centers of the time, with numerous factories (iron mills, copper mills, paper mills, ceramics and armories). Ronciglione also hosted a Jewish community in the period preceding the expulsion decrees at the end of the 16th century.
The 17th century ended with the anti-French riots that occurred during the first Roman Republic of 1798-1799. During this period, a fire devastated much of the historic center and destroyed the historical archive.
Ronciglione became a city in 1728, thanks to Pope Benedict XIII.

The wonders of Ronciglione
