Paratico is an Italian municipality located in the hilly area known as Franciacorta, in Lombardy. With its 4879 inhabitants, Paratico is situated at the southern end of Lake Iseo, a place that encloses an extraordinary natural beauty.
Physical geography
The territory of Paratico is an explosion of colors and scents, thanks to the presence of many hamlets such as Borgo, Tengattini, Foppe, San Pietro, Rivatica, and Vanzago. History
The history of Paratico is fascinating and very ancient. The locality saw the birth of the castle of the Lantieri family, lords of the place, after the year 1000. Later, it was almost entirely dismantled in the early sixteenth century and devoted its economy to agriculture, fishing, textile activity, and extraction of sandstone.
Paratico was also the place where Dante Alighieri stayed, as confirmed by an ancient tradition confirmed by the Chronicle of the Lantieri family from Paratico. Finally, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, dating back to the fifteenth century, represents another important historical place in the city.
