Villongo

Villongo: a small town in Lombardy

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Villongo, a charming town in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy, which I have been passionate about for years. Villongo has a population of about 7,927 inhabitants and is divided into two districts: San Filastro and Villongo Sant'Alessandro. The town is located about 60 kilometers northeast of Milan and about 25 kilometers east of Bergamo, at an altitude of about 220 meters. Other nearby locations include Solarolo, Seranica, and Isola.

Physical geography

Territory

The territory of Villongo covers an area of 29.62 square kilometers, characterized by hills and mountains. Lake Iseo is nearby, making the town's climate milder. The surrounding areas are ideal for hiking or cycling.

Climate

The climate of Villongo is characterized by typically hilly winters and hot summers. Thanks to its proximity to the mountains, the town receives cool winds from the San Fermo hills, which dissipate the oppressive heat typical of low-altitude areas.

During winter, snowfalls are frequent, but if the mild southeasterly wind blows, the snow quickly turns into rain. Winter precipitation is modest, similar to that of neighboring areas. Winter thunderstorms or snowstorms are also possible, perhaps after the passage of an intense Atlantic disturbance, followed by the presence of continental cold air.

In spring, marked climatic and thermal differences can be observed: diurnal thermal excursions and cold phases are frequent. Rainfall is partially evenly distributed among the 4 spring months.

Summer is hot but ventilated, thanks to the proximity to the lake and the northern winds from the Adrara and Guerna valleys. Summer precipitation is almost entirely in the form of well-distributed thunderstorms in the summer months. Intense thunderstorms and local hailstorms are also frequent between August and September.

Autumn is the rainiest season in the Lombard foothills, with an autumnal accumulation of average precipitation of more than 400 mm. Temperatures gradually fall leading to winter, but sometimes summer extends a little longer, or winter shows up early.
