History

The history of Giffoni Sei Casali dates back to Roman times when the inhabitants of Picenza moved to the mountains to form a new settlement around the temple erected by Silla to the God Jupiter. The hamlet of Capitignano was born next to this temple, and it seems that the name of the town derives precisely from Caput Jani (the effigy of Janus). The town was part of various districts and jurisdictions of the Kingdom of Italy and became an autonomous municipality in 1944.

Symbols

Giffoni Sei Casali boasts a coat of arms and a banner granted by the President of the Republic in 1975. The banner is a yellow and red parted cloth.

The town is well connected with the rest of the region thanks to its numerous provincial roads. Provincial Road 24/a connects Ponte don Melillo to Fisciano, Calvanico, and bivio Gaiano. Provincial Road 25/a SP 25 connects KM 0+900 Malche to Giffoni Valle Piana. In addition, the town is part of the Monti Picentini mountain community.

Administration

The administration of Giffoni Sei Casali is registered in the Monti Picentini mountain community and the regional basin authority Destra Sele. The Consortium for the reclamation of the right bank of the Sele river is responsible for the management of irrigation and land improvement.
