History
Ponte San Nicolò has a long history dating back to the year one thousand. It is likely that the town was already inhabited during the Roman period. In 918, the village of Roncajette, called Roncaliutari, was mentioned where blackberry bushes were extracted with a sickle. In the area along the right bank of the Retrone River (ancient name of the Roncajette River) there was a vast forest called "Ponteglese". In 1130, the first chapel dedicated to San Nicolò was built and, in 1228, the bridge that connected the town was rebuilt in stone. Over the centuries, Ponte San Nicolò has been the center of various battles and floods, including the ones in 1966 and 2010.

Religious architecture
Ponte San Nicolò is rich in interesting churches and sacred places. The Church of San Nicola di Bari was built in 1898 in Lombard Gothic style, while the bell tower was built between 1946 and 1950. The ancient parish church of San Nicolò, dedicated to the Virgin and later to the Holy Crucifix, was built as a chapel in 1291 and was entrusted to the Capodivacca families and, from 1579, to the counts of Collalto. In the seventeenth century, the church was expanded with the construction of a transept and a new sacristy. In 1753, Cardinal Carlo Rezzonico, future Pope Clement XIII, visited the church and the town.
