Poscante
Poscante: an ancient village
Hello friends! Today I will tell you about Poscante, a Frazione (geographical term) in the Comune (municipality) of Zogno, in the province of Bergamo, Italy. This place has a very special name, which derives from the Bergamo dialect, "Poscànt," which in turn derives from Latin "Post Cantum." But let's come to the history of this small agricultural village.
History of Poscante
Poscante is a place of ancient origin, which has always been constituted as a municipality and had its parish church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, part of the Comune of Zogno. Over the centuries, the village has grown and enriched itself with new fractions such as Endenna, Grumello de 'Zanchi, and Somendenna. However, in 1815 the Austrians, who ruled Lombardy Veneto for many years, annulled Napoleon's decision to unite these fractions to Poscante.
After the unification of Italy, the village experienced great demographic growth, going from 1,500 to 2,500 inhabitants. However, during the fascist period, the municipality was suppressed and merged with Zogno, with the exception of a fraction that now belongs to Nese.
