Zinasco

Welcome to Zinasco, a commune in Lombardy

If you're looking for a peaceful place immersed in nature, Zinasco is the perfect place. This commune, located in the province of Pavia, has 3064 inhabitants and is divided into two inhabited centers: Zinasco Vecchio and Zinasco Nuovo. There are also some smaller hamlets such as Sairano, Bombardone, Cascinino, and Gerone. All of these villages overlook the edge of the Lomellina terrace with a magnificent view of the Po river's alluvial valley.

The history of Zinasco

Zinasco Vecchio has ancient origins: the toponym Cinascum already appears in the 12th century. Later, the village was part of Lomellina and the squad of Sommo, a podesteria of Pavia. In the fifteenth century, Zinasco Nuovo was founded, following the fortunes of Cava Manara. During the centuries, it passed from the fiefs of the Eustachi of Pavia to the Olevano marquises, until it was acquired by the House of Savoy in 1713. It was under their rule that Zinasco was united with the province of Lomellina. In the seventeenth century, the commune also included the hamlet of Sairano. However, Zinasco has not always had the same composition: in 1818, for example, the commune of San Nazaro del Bosco was absorbed by Zinasco.

Society and demographic evolution

The population of Zinasco has never been very large. However, after the union with San Nazaro del Bosco, the commune has experienced a steady demographic growth. Today, Zinasco remains a mostly rural and peaceful commune, with a population very dedicated and attached to its roots. Its inhabitants value their land and their history, which makes Zinasco a very welcoming place.
