Zerbo

Greetings from Zerbo: a brief introduction to the municipality of Zerbo

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about Zerbo, a lovely municipality located in the province of Pavia, in Lombardy. Zerbo has a population of 396 and is located in the southern part of Pavese, just a short distance from the left bank of the Po river. Its name has a slight variation in pronunciation depending on the area you are in: if you are in the northern part of Zerbo, you will call it "Zèrb", while in the southern part you will call it "Zèrp".

A brief history of Zerbo

Zerbo has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, when it was under the control of the "Paveri" of Pavia. In 1683, it came under the control of the "Ghislieri" and was part of the "Campagna Sottana" of Pavia. In the 18th century, the municipality of "Torre Selvatica" was merged with Zerbo. An interesting peculiarity of this municipality is that in June 1972 it was the site of a large "hippy" gathering, organized by the magazine "Re Nudo". About 10,000 young people participated in the event and peacefully invaded the village. Among these young people was also a young Eugenio Finardi, who later became a famous Italian singer-songwriter. Recently, Zerbo was crossed by the 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia on May 22, 2019.
