Zeccone

Greetings and Introduction

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small Lombard town that maybe not everyone knows about: Zeccone. How many inhabitants do you think it has? Only 1690! But don't be fooled by its small size, because Zeccone is a town rich in history and charm.

History

Let's start with its history: it is believed that Zeccone was inhabited since the Early Middle Ages, but there is only certain evidence starting from the 5th century, when precious objects were found in that area. Over the centuries, the territory passed from the hands of the canons of San Giovanni Domnarum in Pavia to those of the condottiero Visconti Guido Torelli, and finally to the Torelli of Casei Gerola, who were the owners until the end of the 18th century. In 1871, Zeccone joined the municipality of Villareggio, but soon became autonomous again.

Society and Demographic Evolution

Now let's talk about Zeccone's society, which today has 1690 inhabitants. As in many other Italian villages, there has been a progressive reduction in the population dedicated to agriculture, with a consequent transformation of economic activities. Many sharecropping farmers have become workers and have found jobs in nearby cities such as Pavia and Milan.

Administration and Curiosity

Zeccone's mayor is a retired general, Ambrogio Clerici, who served in this position for the first time in 1949. Moreover, Zeccone is famous for its dialect, which is very different from the one spoken in nearby towns.

Conclusions

In summary, Zeccone is a small but fascinating municipality, located on the plain between the Olona and the Naviglio Pavese. Its history goes from the Early Middle Ages to the present day, through the ownership of illustrious families and the union with other neighboring municipalities. Today, Zeccone is a village where economic activities are changing, but it retains its charm and its peculiar dialect. I invite you to discover it if you don't know it yet!
