Selva
Let's explore Selva, the hamlet of Zandobbio
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Selva, the hamlet of Zandobbio in the province of Bergamo. Selva is a small locality that extends after the industrial area of the municipality of Zandobbio and is crossed by the Malmera stream.
Physical geography
Territory
Selva is composed of several localities and is surrounded by lush nature, characterized by hills and woods. The landscape is very suggestive and offers many opportunities for hiking or cycling.
Economic activity
The main economic activity of Selva is represented by marble extraction and processing. The marble quarries, which are present in the area, are one of Selva's main attractions. But not only that: there are also agricultural companies that deal with cattle breeding, produce dairy products, and cultivate vegetables and fruits.
Monuments and places of interest
If you find yourself in Selva, you can't miss the monuments and places of interest that this small hamlet has to offer. The Church of Sant'Anna, established in 1960 by decree of the Bishop of Bergamo, is one of the most important in the country. On the churchyard is the "Grotto of Lourdes" and inside the church, you can admire the Nativity painting with a particular frame. Above the altar is a large crucifix, carried in procession through the streets of the village every Holy Friday.
At the top of Monte Conisio, there is the sanctuary of San Giovanni delle Formiche, a destination for many pilgrimage tours. The entrance of the settlement is characterized by the long avenue that leads to Villa Luogo, once the owner's residence. Inside, you can visit a garden with centuries-old trees.
Celebrations
Every year on July 26th, the solemn procession through the streets of the village with the Statue on the Throne in honor of St. Anna, the patron of the church of Selva, is celebrated. On December 4th of each year, instead, the patron saint of the quarries is celebrated with the Feast of St. Barbara.
