Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Turin, a wonderful Italian city located in Piedmont, in the northwest of the peninsula. With a population of over 842,000 inhabitants, Turin is the fourth largest municipality in Italy and the capital of the Piedmont region and the Metropolitan City of Turin.

A city with many facets

Economy and industrial production

Turin is an important center for the Italian economy and industrial production. In the past, along with Milan and Genoa, it constituted the famous industrial triangle during the country's economic miracle. Today, with its strategic position, it is one of the major poles of universities, art, tourism, science, and culture in Italy. Turin is also the site of important areas and buildings protected by UNESCO, including some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of Savoy residences in Piedmont (world heritage) and the Po hills area (biosphere reserve).

Turin: history, culture, nature and industry.

Millennial history

Turin has a millennial history that has left its mark on the city. Founded probably by the Taurini around the 3rd century BC, it was then transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus with the name of Iulia Augusta Taurinorum in the 1st century BC. It was then the capital of an important duchy, before passing under the lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563 it became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy, before becoming the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.

Important events

The city of Turin has hosted numerous important events throughout history. In 1911, it held the International Exhibition of Turin, while in 2006 it hosted the XX Winter Olympic Games. In 2021 and at least until 2025, Turin will host the ATP Finals, while in 2022 it hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.

Global city

The constant growth in international importance has made Turin reach the rank of global city in the "Gamma" category, becoming the third Italian city after Milan and Rome.

The geography of Turin

Territory

Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po rivers (the latter crosses the city from south to north), in front of the entrance to some Alpine valleys: Val di Susa, Valli di Lanzo, and Val Sangone. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains that protect it from external weather conditions. In addition, its location makes it easy to access tourist resorts in the Alps and France.

Main industries

Turin is the cradle of the Italian automotive industry. Numerous Italian car companies, including Fiat, have their headquarters in Turin, along with other important industrial realities such as banking, insurance, information technology, cinema, and fashion.
