Volturino: the high altitude village between snow, winds and traditions.

Climate

Being one of the coldest and most continental places in the entire region, Volturino is famous for its rigid and characteristic climate. In winter, in fact, the average temperature often drops below 0°C, with frequent frosts and numerous snowfalls, while in summer it rarely exceeds 30°C. Not to be underestimated are also the strong winds of Föhn, Scirocco and Maestrale blowing in the area, making the climate even more peculiar.

Origin of the name

Like many Pugliese towns, Volturino also has ancient and fascinating origins. According to tradition, the name would derive from the word "avvoltoio" (utrinë in Pugliese dialect), also used as the basis for the local name "vulture," which designates the southwest wind, which often blows in the area.
