Hello everyone! Today I will be talking about Voghiera, a small Italian municipality in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, with a population of around 3613 residents. Voghiera, or Ughièra in the local Ferrarese dialect, is a place of great historical, cultural, and enogastronomic charm.

Physical Geography

Voghiera is located in a climatic zone E, with 2276 degree days, and low seismic risk (Zone 3 - low seismicity), as specified in the PCM Ordinance of March 20, 2003.

History

Until January 20, 1960, Voghiera was a hamlet of Portomaggiore. Later on, it was proclaimed a municipality.

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of Voghiera depicts the famous Tower of Delight of Belriguardo, with a blue background in the upper part and green in the lower part.

Monuments and Places of Interest

One of the main attractions of Voghiera is certainly the presence of numerous churches and historical monuments. The municipality, in fact, hosts 5 parishes with their respective religious buildings, which include the Church of the Nativity of Mary, the Church of San Leo, the Church of St. Thomas of Canterbury, the Church of San Lorenzo Martire, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Additionally, there is also the Oratory of Sant'Antonino and a Roman necropolis.

Among the civil architectures, there is also the Delight of Belriguardo, one of the Este delights that today houses the Belriguardo Civic Museum, Villa Navarra, Villa Massari Ricasoli with its theater, and the Roman Bridge of Voghiera.

Society

Demographically, there are 76 foreign citizens in Voghiera, mainly of Ukrainian nationality. The majority of the population is Catholic and belongs to the Archdiocese of Ferrara-Comacchio.

Culture

Museums are an essential part of Voghiera's culture. The Civic Museum of Belriguardo, for example, is dedicated to the history of archaeology, the Renaissance, and modern art. Inside, you can admire numerous artifacts from the ancient Roman city of Voghenza, ceramics from the 14th-17th century, frescoes and Ferrarese artifacts from the 14th-17th century, and a collection of industrial archaeology with the permanent exhibition of ''Piccole metallurgie ferraresi''. Additionally, there is the Historical Modeling Museum, dedicated to historical military modeling.

Anthropogenic Geography

Voghiera is divided into four hamlets: Ducentola, Gualdo, Montesanto, and Voghenza, each with its own church and tourist vocation.

Economy

We cannot conclude without mentioning the main excellence of the territory of Voghiera, namely garlic, which obtained Protected Designation of Origin status in May 2010, despite being a niche product.

As you can see, Voghiera is a municipality with a very interesting history and culture, offering many tourist attractions for all tastes, from visiting churches and historical monuments to production and tasting of garlic.
