Torremenapace
A country with a rich history
Hello friends, today I want to talk to you about Torremenapace, a hamlet in the municipality of Voghera in the province of Pavia. The village is located north of the city of Voghera and has 204 inhabitants. But don't be fooled by appearances, because this small town has a very rich history.
History
The first news of Torremenapace, also known as Torre di Menàpace, dates back to the distant year 1224, when it was called Giarola. Since then it has been considered a hamlet of the municipality of Voghera, as evidenced by documents from 1276. In 1382, the army of Ludovico d'Angiò camped in the village as it was heading towards the conquest of Naples. In 1447, a feudal family, that of Corradino Menapace di Bottigella, settled in the area and built a tower. That's how the village got the name we know today.
The Church dedicated to San Colombano has been present in the area since 1304, and in 1523 it was already called by its current name. The church was poorly maintained and had an adjacent cemetery, but thanks to the visits of Monsignor Stella and Monsignor Peyretti, in 1750 it became a rectory and the new part of the rectory was built by the rector Don Pietro Pernigotti in 1939.

Demographic evolution
From the parish register it emerges that in 1613 the parish had 220 people, while in 1630 53 people died, almost all of plague. In 1838 there were 153 inhabitants, and from the last census of 2001 the inhabitants are 204.
Despite the decrease in the number of inhabitants compared to the past, the village remains a welcoming place full of traditions.
Conclusions
In summary, Torremenapace is a small town that has a lot to offer. Its fascinating history and welcoming community make it a special place. If you find yourself near Voghera, I recommend that you visit Torremenapace and discover in person all the secrets of its history.
