Climate

If you're a meteorology enthusiast, know that in Vizzola Ticino, in the Castelnovate hamlet, there is a meteorological station managed in collaboration with the Lombard Meteorological Center. So if you want to know every detail about the weather in the area, don't hesitate to take a look!

Origin of the name

The name Vizzola derives from the dialectal word "Vegiola" or "Vezzola," which in Bergamo and Piacenza indicates a measure of wine. Some historians attribute a distant viticultural specialization to this town, completely lost today.

History

The origins of Vizzola Ticino are very ancient, dating back to the proto-Golasecca culture and Roman civilization period. In addition, thanks to the excavations carried out by Federico Caproni and Giovanni Battista Caproni, numerous archaeological finds have been unearthed, such as a conglomerate cistern dating back to the late Roman era. During the Middle Ages, Vizzola was part of the feud of Quinzano San Pietro, belonging to several noble families, including the Crivelli and subsequently the Visconti di Cislago, who had in their local representative of greater importance Cesare, Marquis of Cislago. In the eighteenth century, the municipality passed by inheritance to Count Carlo Francesco Ercole Castelbarco, universal heir of the Visconti di Cislago branch, who subsequently sold much of his property to the Della Croce family.

Caproni and the Aeronautical Industry

But the most significant historical period for Vizzola Ticino is that of the Caproni Aeronautical Industry, founded in 1908 by Giovanni Battista Caproni. The factory was headquartered right here, where the first Caproni airplanes were tested and produced. During the war period, the company's production was essential for Italian aviation, until the end of World War II. Today, the Municipality of Vizzola Ticino has dedicated a street to Giovanni Battista Caproni, to commemorate his contribution to the history of aviation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Vizzola Ticino is a small town but with a very interesting history that is worth knowing. If you are passionate about history and aviation, Vizzola Ticino is definitely for you. Moreover, the beauty of the surrounding territory will make your visit even more pleasant. I recommend visiting it at least once in your life!
