Formeniga

Formeniga: a combination of history and natural beauty

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a little gem in the Treviso area, Formeniga. This geographical fraction, located about 8.8 km southwest of the center of Vittorio Veneto, is a must-see for those who love history and natural beauty.

The History of Formeniga

The history of Formeniga dates back to the 12th century, when there was a large castle. In 1378, the castle was demolished by the Republic of Venice while it was in the possession of the da Camino family. The nearby Castle Roganzuolo suffered the same fate.

With the construction of the church of San Pancrazio, the village began to have its own identity. During the Lombard-Veneto Kingdom, Formeniga represented a geographical fraction of the municipalities of San Giacomo di Veglia and then of Ceneda.

Today, Formeniga is a very small village located at the top of the hill. Its economy is linked to agriculture, especially wine production.

Monuments and places of interest

Church of San Pancrazio

The church of San Pancrazio is the symbol of Formeniga. Located at the top of the hill, it was founded in the 14th century on an existing nucleus. The structure stands on the foundations of the ancient castle.

The church is a one-aisled building, with a gabled facade in marble tympanum. Quadrangular monophores are present on the side walls, and the bell tower is attached to the left.

Inside, the Altarpiece of San Rocco, a work by Silvestro Arnosti, is one of the most interesting things to see.

Villa Battiston

Villa Battiston is an 18th-century Venetian villa located in Via Valsalere. Characterized by a three-story manor house, with a notched cornice and a round-headed balustrade monophore centrally located on the main floor, it is an example of architecture from the past.

The traditional village festival

The traditional village festival takes place between the last week of November and the first week of December. The day of the Immaculate Conception is the culmination of the celebration, with the village coming to life with stalls and tastings of local typical products.
