Hello friends!
Today I'll talk to you about Turin, a city that impressed me with its history, culture, and liveliness! Turin is an Italian Municipality with a population of 842,472 and is the capital of the Piedmont region and the Metropolitan City of Turin. It is the fourth Municipality in Italy by population and is the center of the Turin Metropolitan Area, which has around 1.7 million inhabitants.
Economy and Culture
Turin is famous for its economy and industrial production, together with Milan and Genoa, it formed the Italian industrial triangle during the Economic Miracle years. The city is one of the most significant university, artistic, touristic, scientific, and cultural poles in Italy. Additionally, it hosts areas and buildings included in two UNESCO-protected sites.
History
Turin's history is fascinating and dates back two millennia. The city was founded by the Taurini around the 3rd century BC and then turned into a Roman colony by Augustus with the name of ''Iulia Augusta Taurinorum'' in the 1st century BC. After the Ostrogothic rule, it became the capital of a significant Duchy of Turin, then passing under the nominal control of the House of Savoy in the 11th century.
Events
Turin hosted the International Exposition of Turin in 1911, the XX Winter Olympic Games in 2006, the ATP Finals from 2021, and recently the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Food and Drinks
Turin's delicacies include vermouth, Gianduiotti, grissini, and espresso coffee. Food and wine are a true art in Turin.
Location
Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po rivers and in front of the mouth of some alpine valleys. Susa Valley, Lanzo Valleys, and Sangone Valley are some of the valleys that connect the city with nearby France through the Frejus tunnels.
Conclusion
Turin is a city to be absolutely visited for its beauty, history, and liveliness of daily life. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to visit and hope to come back soon!
See you soon, friends!
