Vinzaglio

Vinzaglio: a small Piedmontese town

Hello friends, today I will talk to you about Vinzaglio, a small Piedmontese town with 522 inhabitants located in the province of Novara, in Piedmont. Vinzaglio is an agricultural village located between Novara and Vercelli, about 3 km from the left bank of the Sesia river.

The territory of the municipality of Vinzaglio is characterized by four hamlets, each similar in size and inhabitants. The hamlets are Vignetta, Pernasca, Torrione Rossignoli and the smallest Scavarda.

History of Vinzaglio

Vinzaglio has historical ties to the city of Vigevano, of which it has been a part since the fourteenth century, then confirmed by Francesco II Sforza in 1532. In 1859, a significant battle of the Second Italian War of Independence took place in this town, which saw the troops of the Franco-Piedmontese army confront those of the Austrian Empire. The Battle of Vinzaglio took place under the same circumstances that led to the almost contemporary clashes that occurred in the territories of the neighboring municipalities of Confienza and the Battle of Palestro. In memory of the battle, a small monumental ossuary was erected that collects the remains of the fallen soldiers.
