Villar Pellice

Welcome to Villar Pellice

Hello! Today I want to talk to you about Villar Pellice, a small town in Piedmont, Italy. With its 1043 inhabitants, Villar Pellice is part of the metropolitan city of Turin and is located in the Val Pellice. The toponym "Villar" is common in many municipalities in the region, probably due to its medieval origins, when Occitan was spoken.

History

One of the most famous tragedies in Villar Pellice is the flood of 2008. On May 29 of that year, a terrible flow of mud and debris of 40,000 m³ broke away from the Rio Cassarot basin, destroying the hamlet of Garin. Two houses were destroyed and many others were damaged. Four people lost their lives and three more were injured.

Villar Pellice: history, culture, and society in Piedmont.

Culture

If you are interested in the history of Villar Pellice, I recommend visiting the Ecomuseo Feltrificio Crumière, founded in 2006. Here you can see old machines, tools, and objects from the daily life of the wool felting industry.

Society

According to information dating back to the 19th century, the municipality would be predominantly Waldensian. The Waldensian Church is a Protestant Christian Church that has its origins in Piedmont, where its members were persecuted for spreading a form of Christianity different from the official one.

Administration

The administration of Villar Pellice is composed of the Mayor and the Municipal Councilors. If you need information about the city or want to make a report, you can contact them directly.
