Villanova Solaro: a brief presentation
Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about Villanova Solaro, a Piedmontese town of 752 inhabitants located in the province of Cuneo. The name comes from the Solaro family, who owned a castle still present in the area. Let's take a closer look at the characteristics of the town.
Physical geography
Territory
Villanova Solaro is located at an altitude of 268 meters, between the Torrente Varaita and the Rivo Follìa. It borders the municipalities of Moretta, Torre San Giorgio, Murello, Scarnafigi, and Ruffia.
History
The town was rebuilt in 1327 by the will of Filippo d'Acaja and in 1423 it separated from Moretta. Later, the territory was fortified and made more populated.

In 1834, Villanova Solaro had 1581 inhabitants, while today it has 752.
Ethnic groups and foreign minorities
As of December 31, 2017, there were 48 foreign citizens in the town, mainly of Romanian nationality.
Villages
The villages in the town are Vernetto and Airali, 2.5 km away from the center. In Vernetto there is a church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist.
Infrastructure and transportation
Railways
From 1886 to 1959, the town was served by a railway station on the Moretta-Cavallermaggiore line.
Roadways
Villanova Solaro is crossed by several provincial roads that connect it to Moretta, Scarnafigi, Ruffia, Torre San Giorgio, Monasterolo di Savigliano, and Savigliano.
Urban mobility
The town is served by a bus line that connects it to Savigliano, active during the school year.
Administration
Villanova Solaro does not have twinning agreements with other towns.
