Villanova del Ghebbo

Discovering Villanova del Ghebbo

Hi everyone! Today I'll be talking about an Italian municipality located in Veneto, in the province of Rovigo: Villanova del Ghebbo. With just over 2,000 inhabitants, this town offers a series of monuments and buildings that are worth a visit.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Villanova del Ghebbo: a treasure to discover.

Religious Architecture

Let's start with the churches. The Church of San Michele Arcangelo, located on Via Roma, the main street of the town, is a very suggestive building built between the 18th and 19th centuries. Inside there are paintings and bas-reliefs of various kinds, but what makes it really interesting are the frescoes made by the painter Giovanni Canal and the Lendinara adoptee Tommaso Sciacca.

Another church worth visiting is the Church of San Giuliano Martire, the main church of the Bornio hamlet. In addition, there is the Oratorio Santissimo Nome di Maria, located in the Canova area, built between the 17th and 19th centuries. According to tradition, an apparition of the Virgin Mary occurred precisely in this place.

Finally, the Oratorio dedicated to Maria Addolorata is located between via Belfiore and via chiesetta, and is definitely another building of interest.

Civil Architecture

Among the buildings of civil interest, there is the Municipal Palace which represents the seat of the municipal administration. But if you are lovers of rural architecture, I suggest you visit Villa Monti, built in the 18th century. This complex consists of three buildings: the manor house, that of the employees and the stables. Furthermore, it is precisely here that Giovanni and Giacomo Monti were born, two brothers arrested with the carbonari group of Fratta Polesine.

Society

Demographic Evolution

The municipality of Villanova del Ghebbo experienced a demographic increase in the second half of the twentieth century thanks to immigrants from southern Italian regions.

Administration

The Municipality of Villanova del Ghebbo is administered by Mayor Giampietro Cester, a competent administrator and passionate about enhancing the treasures of the territory.
