Physical Geography

The municipality of San Damiano d'Asti is located in Piemonte, about 15 km from Asti. The town is located on the plateau of the upper Monferrato, between the Alfieri hills, on the left side of the Borbore stream. The maximum altitude of the territory is 339 meters, and the hills are cultivated with vineyards that produce precious wines.

History

San Damiano d'Asti has a very interesting history dating back to the Middle Ages. During the wars between the Republic of Genoa and Charles I of Anjou, an entire cluster of villages around the town was destroyed, and the inhabitants were forced to live in the new village founded by the conquerors, called San Damiano.

Subsequently, the town had a long period of domination by the Marquises of San Martino d'Agliè, followed by the Carlevaris counts, who governed San Damiano d'Asti until the end of the Kingdom of Italy.

The municipality of San Damiano d'Asti has a coat of arms, a banner, and a flag granted by the President of the Republic in 2001. It was also awarded the title of city in 2018 by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
