Villa Rendena

Hello friends, we present to you Villa Rendena!

We are going to talk to you about the wonderful Villa Rendena, a Frazione located in Trento and the capital of the municipality of Porte di Rendena. First of all, we know that perhaps not everyone knows what a Frazione is. Therefore, it is an administrative subdivision of a municipality, which has its own specific identity but is part of a larger entity.

History

The history of Villa Rendena is very fascinating. The territory was already inhabited in pre-Roman times, but also by Rhaetian populations, Celts, and Romans. During 1630, the Plague claimed many victims in the municipality, and many people abandoned the village. However, thanks to the strength and determination of the villages of Giudicarie, the town was rebuilt after the devastating fires.

Villa Rendena: history, monuments and demographics in Trento - Short Guide

Monuments and places of interest

Villa Rendena is well known for its suggestive Church of San Martino, which is the parish church of the place. Another engaging destination from a religious point of view is the Chapel of Pafsang, dedicated to the Madonna of Mercy, which is located on the hill overlooking the village.

Society

Demographic evolution

Until December 31, 2015, Villa Rendena, along with Javrè and Verdesina, constituted a sovereign municipality of Italy. Today, after the annexation to the former municipalities of Darè and Vigo Rendena, it is part of the municipality of Porte di Rendena. At the time of its suppression, the municipality had 1002 inhabitants.

Administration

Administrative changes

Verdesina became autonomous from Villa Rendena in the distant 1788. In the late nineteenth century, the district captain of Tione di Trento tried to unite the villages of Villa Rendena, Verdesina, and Javré into a single municipality, but the attempt was not successful. However, after the First World War, there was a substantial restructuring of administrative subdivisions, which merged several municipalities into one. Thus, even Villa Rendena, Verdesina, and Javré found themselves united in a single municipal entity, with its capital in Villa Rendena, following Royal Decree-Law no. 1183 of May 6, 1928.
