A bit of history

Like every historic place, Villa Lagarina preserves testimonies that tell its ancient origin. The city was already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, where it was called ''la Villa di Villa''. In 900-500 B.C., during the First Iron Age, important archaeological finds were discovered, such as two buckles that are now preserved in the museums of Rovereto and Trento. But the most significant finds date back to the late Roman Empire (200-476 A.D.), when numerous silver and bronze coins were found, minted in a period ranging from Emperor Augustus (27 B.C. to 14 A.D.) to Aurelian (270-275 A.D.).

An documented event dates back to 1190, when a solemn meeting of the heads of families from the entire Lagaro municipality was convened in the city square. In this assembly, the plebs and its consuls accused Aldrighetto di Castelbarco of violating the community's property rights on Mount Cimone. This trial, which ended with Aldrighetto's acceptance of a compromise proposed by the Consuls, testifies to the existence of a municipality of Lagaro, perhaps also composed of Cimone and Aldeno, able to manage the communal undivided ownership of pastures and woods with authority.

Art and culture in Villa Lagarina

The city is also famous for the monumental Church of Santa Maria Assunta, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. This church dates back to the Middle Ages and was rebuilt in the 1600s. Additionally, the urban fabric of the city still preserves numerous noble residences erected over the past centuries. Villa Lagarina has always been an important center for agriculture, especially viticulture, but after the Second World War it saw a great increase in commercial, artisanal, and industrial activities.

The strategic position of Villa Lagarina

The position of Villa Lagarina is perfect because it is exactly in the center of Vallagarina. Thanks to the proximity of important cities such as Trento and Rovereto, it is easy to move around and visit other beautiful places in the area. Among the various fractions of the municipality are Castellano (Villa Lagarina), Pedersano, and Piazzo.

Conclusion

In summary, Villa Lagarina is a fascinating city full of history. The breathtaking view makes it the ideal place for those who want to spend a holiday surrounded by nature but do not want to give up the comfort of being close to places of great cultural interest. I hope that one day all of you can visit this wonderful place.
