The Story of Poli
Poli is a small Italian municipality located in the metropolitan city of Rome, known for being the birthplace of Pope Innocent XIII, born in 1655. The name of the municipality derives from Castrum Poli or Castrum Pauli, once an important defensive castle. Poli's history is ancient and rich in the influences of various populations and cultures that have succeeded over the centuries. In pre-Roman times, the territory was inhabited by tribes of Sabellian origin, while under the Roman Empire, the municipality was part of Regio IV Samnium with the most important center at Ferentino.
