A trip to Botticino

Hello friends, today I'm taking you to discover the wonderful town of Botticino, located in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. With just over ten thousand inhabitants, Botticino is a small but charming village at the foot of the Brescia Prealps.

Physical geography

Botticino is situated in a picturesque location, surrounded by numerous hills covered in vineyards and olive groves. Its position is particularly attractive thanks to the fact that it is dominated by Mount Maddalena. The hamlets of Botticino Mattina and San Gallo extend along the slopes of Mount Maddalena and Mount Fratta, while the town hall of Botticino Mattina is located in the adjacent large bottom of the Rino stream.

Botticino: nature, history, and art among the hills of Brescia.

Origin of the name

The town of Botticino takes its name from its famous Botticino marble, which is known all over the world. In the Brescia dialect, Botticino is also known as ''Butisì''.

History

Botticino Mattina was already known throughout the Republic of Venice in the 17th century for its valuable marble stones, which had the largest quarries here. During the period of belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Empire within the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, Botticino distinguished itself for an intense activity of irredentism, which was violently repressed by the Austrian police.

The beginning of the 20th century marks a true boom in the commercialization of Botticino marble, thanks to the work of the Brescia minister Giuseppe Zanardelli, who commissioned the supply of marble exclusively from Botticino for the construction of the Vittoriano.

Today, Botticino is the site of an important Italian university of restoration, where the study is focused on the preservation of artistic and cultural assets.

Symbols

The flag of the municipality of Botticino is a split banner of white and blue.

Monuments and places of interest

Among the main places of interest in Botticino we find the ''Centro Lucia'' theater, a multifunctional building designed by the architect Sergio Pascolo. The theater, which evokes the civic tower of the past, a symbol of community and reference for public life and citizenship, is structured on three floors and houses a larger hall with a telescopic podium.

But that's not all, Botticino offers much more to visit, such as the tomb of Saint Arcangelo Tadini, on which Pope Benedict XVI stopped to pray during his visit to the town.
