Vigolo
Discovering Vigolo: A Village Immersed in Nature
Hi everyone, today I'm going to talk about Vigolo, a small municipality located in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. With its 577 inhabitants, Vigolo is a quiet village that overlooks the western shore of Lake Iseo, about 49 km east of the capital city.
The History of Vigolo
The history of Vigolo is very ancient, dating back to the period of the Roman Empire. However, the first written documents attesting to the existence of the toponym date back to the year 1202. Later, in 1331, the municipal autonomy of Vigolo was established.
In the eighteenth century, Giovanni Maironi da Ponte described the village of Vigolo as a peaceful place, which did not experience great events during the Middle Ages. However, there are stories of the existence of a tower (now incorporated into residential buildings) and a castle, of which nothing remains, confirming the fact that the village had to resort to the need to erect defensive structures.
In the following years, Vigolo became part of the Republic of Venice, but there were disputes with the neighboring community of Tavernola Bergamasca, with which it was united in a single parish. The situation was only resolved in the sixteenth century, when it was possible to divide the parish into two separate entities.
The Symbols of Vigolo
The coat of arms and the banner of Vigolo were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on November 8, 1991. The banner is a split flag of white and green.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Vigolo is a village immersed in nature, which offers many attractions from a naturalistic point of view. Numerous meadows used for grazing, pine forests and recently renovated farmhouses guarantee, in addition to a beautiful view of the landscape, a great resource given by tourism.
In this context, a large number of excursions can be made suitable for every type of need: both simple walks and challenging paths, up to the possibility of using mountain bikes profitably.
Conclusions
Vigolo is a peaceful village, immersed in nature, which offers many opportunities to spend time outdoors. If you are in the vicinity of Bergamo, I recommend visiting this charming municipality and enjoying the peace and tranquility offered by the surrounding nature.
