Discovering Vignolo: a medieval village of legends and traditions

Welcome to Vignolo, a municipality in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, inhabited by 2605 people and immersed in the nature of the mountains. The town is part of the Valle Stura Mountain Community and is located in the Conurbation 2 of the city of Cuneo.

Vignolo is a medieval village that still preserves its original urban structure and several historic buildings. A walk through the narrow streets of the old town leads us to discover the religious frescoes that decorate the facades of the houses and narrate the stories and traditions of the past.

But Vignolo is also famous for the legend of the sprite Petitmenin, who roams through the woods and streets of the village, creating tricks and troubles. In 2020, ''“‘L païs d’Petitmenin”'' was inaugurated, a trail that leads to the Madonna degli Alpini and is dedicated to the sprite.

History

Vignolo has ancient origins dating back to the 7th century when the monks of the abbey of San Colombano began to operate in the area. The name of the municipality derives from the region's reputation for the production of grapes and walnut oil. Before belonging to the Savoy family, the territory of Vignolo was part of the Marquisate of Saluzzo.
