Hello friends, today I am taking you on a tour of Vignola-Falesina, a picturesque municipality in the autonomous province of Trento, located in the Mocheni Valley and populated by around 180 residents. The name of the town comes from its two main villages, Vignola and Falesina, located respectively in the upper and lower parts of the town.
Monuments and points of interest
If you love visiting ancient churches, don't miss the Church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo in Vignola, dating back to the 18th century. The church features a stone façade with a round arch portal and an octagonal dome. Inside, you can admire a Baroque-style altar and a pipe organ from 1670. In the hamlet of Falesina, there is the Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova Sacerdote e Dottore, dating back to the 15th century. The church was renovated in the 19th century and features a sail-shaped bell tower and a neoclassical façade.
History and archaeology enthusiasts can visit the Forte Busa Grande in the locality of Compet. The fortress, dating back to 1909, was part of the fortification system of the First World War, built to defend Italy from an Austro-Hungarian attack.

From an administrative point of view, Vignola-Falesina is a scattered municipality led by a mayor elected by the population. The current mayor is Alberto Pizzini. The municipality is part of the Territorial Union of the Mocheni Valley and the Comunità Comprensoriale of Valsugana and Tesino.
Society
The population of Vignola-Falesina is constantly decreasing, going from about 1,000 residents in 1955 to 180 residents in 2021. Population growth has been influenced by migration to larger cities and a lack of work in mountainous areas. However, the municipality is highly appreciated by tourists who love the tranquility of mountain life and the beauty of the surrounding valleys.
Demographic evolution
The resident population of Vignola-Falesina has undergone a significant decline over the years. In 1951, the municipality had 1,076 residents, while in 1991, only 326 residents were recorded. In the 2011 census, the population was 195 residents.
Notes
The toponym of Vignola-Falesina comes from Latin "vineola," meaning "small vineyard." The toponym of the hamlet of Falèsina, on the other hand, has an uncertain origin and appears to have no relationship with the word "filicina," meaning "fern."
