After the restoration of the House of Savoy dynasty, the province was once again aggregated to the administrative division of Alessandria.
In 1859, with the law proposed by the then Minister Urbano Rattazzi, the Kingdom of Italy was divided into provinces, districts, mandaments and municipalities. The ancient province of Asti was abolished and replaced by the district of Asti, which was part of the province of Alessandria along with other important cities such as Acqui, Casale Monferrato, Novi Ligure and Tortona.
The province of Asti was reconstituted in 1935 by decision of the Mussolini government, with a capital in Asti and a total of 105 municipalities. After the liberation, the province was further expanded by the addition of some municipalities that had previously been aggregated to other more important territories. Today, the province is made up of 120 municipalities.
