Nozza is the gateway to the middle and upper Valle Sabbia and is situated at the intersection of the Nozza stream and the Chiese river.

Climate

The climate of Vestone belongs to the climatic zone "E" and is characterized by hot summers and cold winters with occasional snowfall. There is a semi-urban Davis VP2 station on the entire territory which provides real-time data on the daily climate situation.

Origins of the name

According to some theses put forward by nineteenth-century historians, Vestone owes its name to the capital village of the Stoni, one of the three Euganean populations according to Pliny the Elder. This village would have been called Stonos and later turned into Vestone.

History

Traces of prehistoric settlements have been found in the plain of Mocenigo, but the nucleus of the settlement of Vestone would have been occupied in the pre-Roman era by the capital village of the Stoni, conquered by the Romans only in 118 BC. Despite this, the region and its populations (the Stoni and the Triumplini) were not completely subjugated until the reign of Augustus.

A military or civilian settlement dating back to the 1st century BC is of Roman origin in the hamlet of Nozza. In 1580, during his apostolic visit to Valle Sabbia, Carlo Borromeo requested the expansion of the settlement of Promo towards the valley bottom in order to unite it with the settlement of Vestone.

The Romanesque church of San Lorenzo still holds frescoes dating back to 1533, bearing witness to the millenary history of this land.
