Montanara: A Historic Hamlet

Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about a small geographical hamlet located in the province of Cremona called Montanara. I'd like to share with you some interesting aspects of the history of this locality and how it has evolved over the years.

The History of the Agricultural Village

Montanara was a small agricultural village of ancient origin in the Contado di Cremona. In the 1700s, it only had 252 inhabitants and was part of the town of Cicognolo during the Napoleonic era from 1810 to 1816. However, with the establishment of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, Montanara managed to obtain autonomy.

With the unification of Italy in 1861, the town already had 426 inhabitants. Later, in 1868, the town of Montanara was annexed to the adjacent town of Cà de' Stefani. Over the long period, the merged town of Cà de' Stefani would, in turn, merge into the town of Vescovato.

Notes on the Community

The Montanara community was mainly based on agriculture and land cultivation. The inhabitants worked hard to produce grains, vegetables, and fruit. Cheese production was also a traditional activity of the local economy.

The Parish Church is located in a beautiful ancient building dating back to the 15th century. Inside the church, valuable artistic and historical treasures from the era are preserved, including crosses and valuable paintings.
