Monuments and places of interest
Franciscan convent of the friars minor
The Franciscan convent of the Order of Friars Minor, founded by St. Francis in 1213 on the ruins of an ancient dormitory, is located in the locality. According to tradition, the saint performed some miracles in the area and planted his cypress staff that had supported him during the walk. The stick took root, giving life to an extraordinary tree. The cypress of St. Francis is a real monument (7.5 m in diameter and 25 m in height) that botanists believe to be at least 700 years old.
Near the convent, healing waters bubble up that legend says were made to spring forth by the saint. The oldest document that mentions this monastery is the testament of Malatesta da Verucchio of 1311. Over time, the small dormitory was converted into a convent, accompanied by a church dedicated to the Holy Cross, still existing.
