Vertova

Greetings from Vertova

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Vertova, a beautiful town in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. With its 4499 inhabitants, it is located on the right bank of the Serio river, just 21 kilometers from Bergamo. Vertova is part of the Mountain Community of Valle Seriana and is a quiet and welcoming place, ideal for those who want to enjoy some peace and relaxation.

The geography of Vertova

Like any respectable town, Vertova also has its well-defined territory. It is located on the right bank of the Seriana valley, right where the Val Vertova stream meets the Serio river. The village extends from an altitude of 395 meters, in the alluvial plain, up to 1900 meters of the foothills of Mount Alben.

The territory of Vertova is delimited by some watercourses: to the southeast is the Serio river, which separates Vertova from the municipality of Casnigo; to the south, instead, there is Mount Clocca which divides Vertova from Fiorano al Serio. To the southwest and west, the territorial limit is given by the course of the Vertova stream, which separates Gazzaniga from Vertova; to the northwest, however, the border follows the orographic watershed between the Seriana valley and the Val Brembana, which borders Cornalba. To the north and northeast, instead, the ridge descends from Alben to Mount Cavlera, delimiting the territory of Vertova first with the Val del Riso and the municipality of Oneta, and then with Colzate.

The main inhabited nucleus of Vertova is located in the valley floor, along the bed of the Serio river. Here the majority of the population is concentrated, which over the years has become increasingly numerous thanks to the building expansion that took place in the second half of the 20th century. In this area there are also the hamlets of Semonte and Cavlera.

Moving away from the inhabited center, you can admire the uncontaminated nature of the area. Both in the valley floor and on the slopes of the surrounding mountains, in fact, the level of anthropization is very low. The only exception is represented by the village of Cavlera, where there are some houses, mostly owned by residents who spend their holidays there.

Vertova: nature, water and relaxation in Lombardy.

Water in Vertova

Vertova is an ideal place for those who love outdoor walks and uncontaminated nature. In particular, the village is rich in watercourses, including the Serio river and the Vertova, which is the main tributary of the Serio from the right. In the valley there are also small streams, including the Gromalt valley, the Scapla valley and the Gru valley, which flow from the right orographic slope, and the Masma valley, the Osei valley, the Lacnì valley and the Sterladec valley from the left slope.

In addition, in the alluvial area there is also an artificial canal that runs parallel to the Serio river. This canal is born near Colzate and feeds some small textile companies before pouring the water back into the Serio river. During walks in the area, it is possible to admire the beauty of these watercourses and take advantage of the numerous picnic areas and tourist facilities.
