The Small Town of Arborea in Italy

Although it may not be well-known, the town of Arborea has an interesting and diverse history. Located in Italy, Arborea can be found in two different regions.

Italy

For those who may not know, there are two different locations in Italy called Arborea. The first is a municipality located in the province of Oristano in Sardinia, where there was once a kingdom known as the Giudicato of Arborea. The second Arborea is located in the metropolitan city of Turin, in the region of Piedmont. This is a hamlet of Verolengo.

The History of the Giudicato of Arborea

Many people may be surprised to know that in the Middle Ages there was a kingdom in the area of Sardinia that was called the Giudicato of Arborea. Existing from 1188 until its dissolution in the 15th century, it was one of the four kingdoms of Sardinia and had its own unique form of government.

The Ships of Arborea

Perhaps the name "Arborea" was chosen by those who created the ships in honor of the town, or vice versa. There appear to be at least three different ships with this name: a ferry and a passenger ship of the company Tirrenia, and an auxiliary cruiser of the Italian Royal Navy.

Arborea in Fantasy and Popular Culture

The name Arborea has also been used in other contexts, such as in role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, where Arborea is one of the imaginary planes of existence. Additionally, the name Arborea was used as the name of a city-state in the 2001 animated film Aida of the Trees.

In conclusion, Arborea in its various forms has a fascinating history that is often overlooked. However, now readers can no longer ignore this name, knowing that it can be found in different parts of Italy, in fantasy, and even on the seas.
