Corgeno

Welcome to Corgeno!

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to tell you about Corgeno, a beautiful hamlet in the Municipality of Vergiate, in the province of Varese. Are you ready to discover its history, attractions, and curiosities that make it unique? Then let's get started!

History

Corgeno is a very ancient municipality, which saw the lordship of the Visconti family of Modrone branch for many centuries. Over the years, the village changed administrative references many times, being part of the ephemeral Province of Varese and undergoing suppressions and aggregations. In the Kingdom of Italy, Corgeno had 343 inhabitants, but was suppressed by Napoleon in 1809 and annexed to Cuvirone, which in turn was aggregated to Vergiate in 1811. However, the municipal autonomy of Corgeno was reinstated after the Austrians' return, and the village already had 614 inhabitants in 1861. Finally, in 1869, on the decree of Vittorio Emanuele II, Corgeno was definitively unified with Vergiate.
