Welcome to Verceia, a municipality located in the Lower Valchiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, Lombardy. This place is characterized by the two galleries, Monti di Campo and Verceia, which enclose it to the north and south. If you are traveling through Valchiavenna, Verceia is the last locality before Nuova Olonio, which instead belongs to the municipality of Dubino and is therefore more connected to Valtellina. Monuments and places of interest
Religious architecture
One of the tourist attractions you can admire in Verceia is the Church of San Fedele, built on the basis of a previous Lombard Romanesque building with an apse. If you are looking for serenity and want to admire sacred art, this is the right place for you.
Military architecture
If you are a history enthusiast, I recommend visiting the Galleria mina, which is near the tunnel of the cycle-pedestrian path. Built in 1917, it is part of the fortifications of the Northern Frontier line. History is still alive in this municipality!
Natural areas
Verceia overlooks Lake Mezzola, which hosts numerous aquatic species and birds. If you want to immerse yourself in the Alpine nature, you can climb up to Valle dei Ratti, inside which there are paths of remarkable naturalistic and scenic interest that are part of the Sentiero Italia. At 920 meters altitude, you will find the Tracciolino, built to create a narrow-gauge railway for transporting materials. If you follow this itinerary, you can reach the Moledana dam, built in the 1930s. In the opposite direction, you can access Val Codera.
Continuing to climb in Valle dei Ratti, you will encounter the Frasnedo refuge (1287 m) and the Volta refuge (2212 m). From here, you can cross the Primalpia pass (2476 m) to access Val di Spluga and then Val Masino.
