Physical Geography
Historically, the province of Imperia is divided into three regions: "imperiese," "sanremese," and "ventimigliese." It is characterized by a privileged geographical position that makes it a popular tourist destination.
History
The territory of the current province historically belonged to the Province of Nice. In 1860, most of the province was ceded to France, while the portion that remained with the Kingdom of Sardinia became the province of Porto Maurizio. In 1923, following the merger of the capital Porto Maurizio into the new city of Imperia, the province assumed its current name.
Symbols
The official emblem of the province of Imperia was approved by decree on February 13, 1927.
Honours
On July 6, 1979, the Province of Imperia was awarded the Gold Medal of Military Valour for the sacrifices made by its people and their activity in the partisan struggle during World War II.
