A Description of Calore

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about the fraction of Calore, one of the three parts that make up the municipality of Venticano, in the province of Avellino. It is located about 5 km from the municipal headquarters and takes its name from the river that runs through it, the Calore Irpino or Beneventano, which, over 108 km, is the main tributary of the Volturno River.

Geographical Location

Calore is located along the border with the municipality of Mirabella Eclano and is crossed by the state road 7 via Appia. In addition, just from this fraction originates the state road 90 of Puglia, which is directed towards Foggia. Furthermore, between Calore and the fraction of Castel del Lago, the ancient Appian Way passed, evidenced by the ruins of a Roman bridge that crosses the municipalities of Venticano, Mirabella Eclano, Apice, and Calvi.

History

Calore has always been a border area and for this reason, it has often been the scene of conflicts. One of the most difficult moments in its history was during World War II, when the fraction was heavily bombed. Many houses and other historical buildings were destroyed, but the local community worked hard to rebuild and recover.

The Territory

The surrounding territory of Calore is characterized by the presence of numerous water sources and a great diversity of flora and fauna. The Calore River is very important for the area: in addition to being a source of water and sustenance for the local fauna, it is also used for sports fishing.

Life in Calore is peaceful and rural. Here, you can breathe a genuine and authentic air, made of smiles, kisses, and hugs. There are many events and activities that encourage socialization and entertainment, such as village festivals, religious celebrations, football matches, and much more.

You cannot talk about Calore without mentioning food! The fraction boasts a very rich and tasty culinary tradition, with dishes that recall the countryside and the flavors of tradition. Among the most famous dishes are homemade bread, salami, sausage, and soppressata, but also pasta and beans or orecchiette with turnip greens.
