Venegono Superiore: A Lombardian Municipality with Rich Historical Heritage and Monuments
Venegono Superiore is a municipality in the province of Varese, Lombardy, with a population of 7,282 inhabitants. The earliest documents regarding the city date back to the 11th century and in its territory, Roman vestiges have been found, such as traces of the Comum-Novaria road and a votive stele. Venegono Superiore belonged to the Seprio and the Duchy of Milan and its historic core is dominated by the Castello Castiglione Busti, which in the past has hosted episodes related to witch-hunting.
Monuments and Places of Interest
The city is rich in monuments and places of interest, including the Church of San Giorgio Martire. An example of civil architecture is the Castello Castiglione Busti, placed in a dominant position on the city of Venegono Superiore, which has been rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style. Currently, the Castello Castiglione Busti is occupied by the Comboniani.
Culture
The Communal Library has established a fund named after Tiziano Sclavi, the famous creator of Dylan Dog, who is originally from Venegono Superiore. Additionally, the city was the formation location of punk rock music group Porno Riviste.

The main industry in the city is Aermacchi, which extends from Venegono Superiore to Venegono Inferiore.

The city is served by the Saronno-Laveno railway through the Venegono Superiore-Castiglione Olona station.

The main local football club was the Associazione Calcio Venegonese, later renamed Football Club Venegono. In 2010, the company filed for bankruptcy and some representatives of the same agreed with the Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Castiglione di Castiglione Olona to merge and establish a new association.
